Whole Child at PointUp

An individualized teaching-and-learning approach applied across subjects, built around interests, projects, sensory integration and executive functioning. Curriculum resources, training and support depend on the licensing package selected.

Curriculum author

Ellen Richer, Ed.D.

Founder & Head of School, Long Island Whole Child Academy. The Whole Child method is authored by Dr. Richer.

The method

Four pillars of the approach

Learning is planned around the individual learner. Four pillars shape how lessons, projects and supports fit together.

01

Interest-based learning

Learning starts from what a learner cares about, so effort has a reason behind it.

02

Project-based learning

Skills are built by making and finishing real projects, with portfolios to show the work.

03

Sensory integration

Learning environments and activities are planned with sensory needs and preferences in mind.

04

Executive functioning

Planning, organizing and follow-through are taught and supported rather than assumed.

What Whole Child is

An approach applied across subjects, not a single course

What a school, family or learning provider receives depends on the licensing package selected. Curriculum resources, training and support differ by pathway. No package is assumed to include a complete academic curriculum, and the initial school and home packages in the current proposal reference grades 7–12 only. Whole Child at PointUp is separate from K–12 Online School and is not included in K–12 tuition.

Inclusive by design

Supports are planned for each learner

Learners, including neurodivergent learners, do not all need the same things. Supports are chosen with each learner and family rather than assumed. This is an educational approach. It is not a treatment, a diagnosis or a clinical service.

Services that a school already provides are not automatically part of PointUp's services. What each pathway includes is confirmed with you before anything is agreed.
